Is an Educational Evaluation Right for My Child?
An educational evaluation may be helpful when:
- Your child is struggling with reading, spelling, writing, or mathematics.
- Academic progress is slower than expected despite additional instruction or tutoring.
- Your child’s school performance appears inconsistent with their abilities.
- Teachers or other professionals have expressed concerns.
- Your child has a previous diagnosis or evaluation, but updated academic information is needed.
- You want objective information to guide intervention or monitor progress.
Areas We Evaluate
Each evaluation is individualized according to the student’s age, educational history, presenting concerns, and existing records. Areas may include:
- Reading accuracy, decoding, fluency, and comprehension
- Phonological and orthographic processing
- Spelling and written expression
- Mathematics calculation and problem solving
- Listening comprehension and oral-language skills
- Academic fluency and automaticity
- Attention, working memory, processing speed, and other learning-related skills when appropriate
Milestones integrates standardized assessment results with detailed error analysis, clinical observation, educational history, and information provided by parents and other professionals.
Our Evaluation Process
Step 1 — Parent Interview and Record Review
We begin by listening carefully to your concerns and reviewing relevant educational, developmental, and assessment records.
Parents may be asked to provide school records, report cards, work samples, previous evaluations, IEP or 504 Plan documents, and reports from other professionals.
Step 2 — Individualized Standardized Assessment
Testing is conducted individually in a supportive, child-centered environment. Most comprehensive evaluations include approximately four hours of direct assessment, typically scheduled across two appointments.
Step 3 — Scoring, Error Analysis, and Clinical Interpretation
Results are carefully analyzed to identify patterns of proficiency and difficulty. We examine the types of errors the student makes, the strategies used, and how performance changes as tasks become more complex.
Step 4 — Comprehensive Written Report
Parents receive a detailed report describing the student’s learning profile, assessment results, areas of proficiency, areas for growth, clinical interpretation, and prioritized recommendations.
Step 5 — Parent Feedback Conference
We review the findings, explain what the results mean, answer questions, and discuss recommended next steps. Referrals to other professionals are provided when appropriate.
More Than a Collection of Scores
The purpose of a Milestones educational evaluation is not simply to determine whether a student is performing at grade level.
Our goal is to understand why a student is struggling, identify the skills interfering with progress, and translate the findings into a practical plan for intervention.
When educational therapy is recommended, the evaluation provides a clear baseline for treatment planning, progress monitoring, and future reassessment.
Your Child’s Evaluator
Educational evaluations are conducted and interpreted by Judith Benn, M.A., BCET, Founder and Director of Milestones Educational Therapy.
Judy is a Board Certified Educational Therapist and Certified Dyslexia Remediation Specialist with more than 20 years of experience working with children and adolescents who have diverse learning needs.
Her clinical approach integrates standardized assessment data, detailed error analysis, educational history, clinical observation, and professional judgment to develop practical recommendations for intervention and educational planning.
Educational Evaluation and Formal Diagnosis
Milestones provides educational evaluations for academic and intervention planning. We do not provide medical or psychological diagnoses.
Families seeking a formal diagnosis for eligibility, accommodations, or other diagnostic purposes may be referred to an appropriately licensed psychologist, neuropsychologist, or other qualified professional.

Remote Evaluation Sessions
Remote evaluation sessions may be available when clinically appropriate. Please contact Milestones to discuss whether remote evaluation sessions are suitable for your child.
Evaluation Fee
The fee for a comprehensive educational evaluation is $2,500.
This includes the parent interview and record review, approximately four hours of individualized assessment, scoring and clinical interpretation, detailed error analysis, a comprehensive written report, and a parent feedback conference.
Milestones reserves a limited number of comprehensive educational evaluation appointments each month to ensure that every evaluation receives the time and individualized attention it requires.
