Where do we start?...
Four Easy Steps Toward Helping Your Child |
If your child is having difficulties, and you are wondering what you can do about those difficulties- we are here to help you understand your child's need and learn what can be done to help your child. |
The first step is to identify some of the problems you are noticing with your child. Ask yourself some of the following questions:
1. Is my child doing well in school? Do their grades reflect their efforts?
2. Is my toddler speaking or trying to speak? Do people have difficulty understanding him/her?
3. Does the teacher report or do I think that my child cannot pay attention, and have behavior problems?
4. Does my child have difficulty communicating his/her ideas and thoughts?
5. Does my child seem forgetful? Does my child forget his/her homework at school?
6. Is my child's school bag organized? Is his/her locker organized? Is his/her bedroom clean?
7. Is my child reading/writing below grade level? |
STEP 2 - Preliminary Consultation |
The second step is a preliminary consultation. During this consultation you will have the opportunity to talk about your child's needs, your concerns and your goals with one of Milestone's clinicians. |
STEP 3 - Assessment |
The third step is to begin the process of understanding the causes of your child's difficulties. This step begins with an assessment. An assessment is a way of obtaining in depth information about a child's strengths and weaknesses to determine whether or not he/she requires remediation. Our assessment process usually involves a number of steps including an interview with the child and their family, informal observations obtained during different therapeutic interactions and standardized testing. STEP 4 - Therapy |
The final step of the process is to develop a therapy plan. One of Milestone's directors will review the assessment report and determine which therapies would be beneficial to your child. The treatment plan may include a combination of different research based programs and therapies customized to your child's specific needs. Click her for more information on
